Lee County High School announced Saturday morning the passing of English teacher Sharon Newby.
Described as a “strong and positive influence,” Newby is remembered for being a strict, but fair teacher. Always one to help others, Newby began teaching at LCHS in 2015, mainly teaching English I. Prior to teaching at LCHS, Newby spent eight years at SanLee Middle School as a teaching assistant.
A long-time battle with cancer never stopped Newby from focusing on the students in her classroom. A steady and prepared voice, Newby continued teaching through her battle.
By her side through the fight was her husband, former LCHS assistant principal and current East Lee Middle School principal Robert Newby.
Starting Monday, extra support staff will be on campus for students and staff.
