GREENSBORO – Junior Emmanuelle Whitehead started her day Friday morning with an IB Math exam. Just a few hours later, she was busy claiming a state championship in the girls triple jump at the NCHSAA 3A state track meet at NC A&T.
With a jump of 38′ 6.25″, Whitehead bested 13 other competitors to bring home the win for the Yellow Jackets. The jump also bested her previous personal best by more than a foot. St. Stephens Arlie Priestly came in second with a jump of 37′ 1″.

In other competitions, junior Ja’Kira Jacobs placed 14th in the girls shot put with a throw of 32′ 3.25″.
The boys 4X200 relay team finished sixth in the state with a time of 1:28.65. That team is made up of Kevin Rollins, Aundre’ Gray, Braden Elder and Zaiden McCrimmon.
