Jackets set to run in regional meet Saturday

LOUISBURG – Saturday is the biggest race of the Cross Country season for the Lee County High School team. The Regional race will be run at VE and Lydia Owens Recreation Park.

This is the big time of year for the Cross Country team, this is the place that decides if they are going to continue running for states. Charlie Jester, a senior at LCHS said “I’m optimistic and hopeful that we’ll do well, but I’m also pretty nervous.”

Jester has anchored the LCHS boys team for most of the season, consistently finishing as the Jackets top runner. He is trying to make it to states this year and is aiming for 19 minutes in what could be his final race.

On the girls side, Sarai Perez, a sophomore at LCHS says “I feel nervous but excited” about the upcoming race.

Sarai has been training all season for this and she knows that if she puts in enough effort she’ll be able to make it to her goal time. To Perez, she sees this race differently than past races and says “I have a little more experience” compared to her freshman year.

The Jackets can qualify for the state meet as individuals or as a team.
