‘Soft lockdown’ lifted at LCHS

SANFORD – Lee County High School was under a soft lockdown for about 30 minutes Friday afternoon. Under a soft lockdown, classes are allowed to continue, but no one can be out in the hallways and moving from room to room.

At 12:45 p.m., an announcement was made to keep students in class while they searched for a student. Reportedly, administrators were looking for a Hispanic male that ran off when he was called for.

At 1:15 p.m., an announcement was made stating all clear.

The following statement was released shortly after the lockdown was lifted.

“We enforced a soft lockdown a few minutes ago for a very brief time to simply err on the side of caution. At no time was there any danger regarding students. Nothing came from this, and we are pleased that the soft lock down only lasted a few minutes.”

The beginning of fourth block was delayed by 15 minutes. The remainder of the day went according to a regular schedule.
