SANFORD – Paul B. Gay stadium will be closed until further notice, Lee County High School announced via social media Tuesday morning. During an annual inspection, unsafe cracks were found in the concrete support beams underneath the bleachers.

On the LCHS website, the school released the following announcement. “Out of an abundance of caution, the stadium seating on both sides of the field has been closed until further notice while we consult with a structural engineer.”

Friday’s football game, scheduled to be the home finale, against Scotland County, will now be played at Southern Lee High School. The Cavaliers are on the road this week.

Wednesday’s home boys soccer games are still scheduled to be played at home. Portable stands will be brought in and fans are encouraged to bring chairs to sit in around the track.

Future games are uncertain to be played at the stadium.
