Sadie Hawkins dance coming back to LCHS

SANFORD – As fall approaches with breezy days and chilly nights, it’s time to put your boots on and bump up your step and attend the Sadie Hawkins dance. The traditional dance makes its way through Lee County High School doors once again after not being a dance for many years.

The dance is sponsored by the school’s Parent Teacher Organization and hosted by the Key Club.

“To bring the tradition back because a lot of their children are students here now, so since they had it in high school, they wanted to have it again now,” said math teacher Kirby Forbes.

Forbes has taken the responsibility to look over the dance and help make it possible. Forbes, the Key Club advisor, saw this dance as a way to help the PTO bring a past tradition back to life.

”So some of our parents that are on the PTO, it was their idea. I think it’s because a lot of them were Lee County students, like back in the day, and there used to be a Sadie Hawkins dance,” Forbes said.

“Key Club is partnering with the PTSO to do Sadie Hawkins to boost the school sport and last year there was the winter dance so we are taking a fall approach on that,” said Key Club president Brinkley Lucas.

Key Club will be bringing this fall dance on Oct. 21st.

“We’re thinking right now that it is going to be in the cafeteria,” Forbes said. “It will depend on how many people buy tickets.”

The tickets will be sold for $20 for one and $30 for two  in all lunches.

Lucas said this dance is the perfect opportunity to bring out everyone’s country side. ”The perfect time to pull out your boots and hats,” Lucas said.
