SANFORD – Due to the threat of Hurricane Idalia’s impact on North Carolina, Lee County schools are closed Thursday. All after school activities Wednesday and Thursday are also cancelled.

Thursday will instead work as an asynchronous day for students. Assignments are to be posted online and teachers will be available for help throughout the day. However, no one will be at the schools.

Idalia made landfall Wednesday morning around the Tampa area of Florida before making its way up the east coast. Central North Carolina was expected to get several inches of rain with wind speeds reaching 25 miles per hour.

Schools are expected to reopen and run as a typical day Friday.
